Job Description

Position: Lead Piping Layout

Location: Qatar

Role Overview

The Piping Layout Lead is responsible for managing all Piping and Layout Engineering activities to meet project requirements, timelines, budget, and quality standards. This role oversees engineering execution, ensures alignment with project interfaces, and leads information flow across relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project & Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate all Piping and Layout Engineering tasks in line with project scope, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to all project interfaces, technical guidelines, QA/QC procedures, and HSE standards.
  • Supervise information flow between internal teams and external parties.
  • Drive the implementation of company guidelines and monitor KPIs within the project.

2. Continuous Improvement

  • Capture and share project learnings to enhance and standardize engineering methodologies.
  • Promote best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Detailed Tasks

A. Technology Development & Commercial Support

  • Provide expertise and technical input to project teams on specialized engineering matters.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies and early-stage evaluations.

B. Bidding Phase / Commercial Proposals

  • Review and interpret tender documents.
  • Define deliverables and activity lists for the discipline, ensuring alignment with the proposal schedule.
  • Identify and raise technical queries, deviations, and alternative solutions.
  • Apply bidding methodologies, design criteria, and project guidelines.
  • Prepare RFQs for items not estimated in-house.
  • Coordinate material quantity and weight estimates.
  • Prepare engineering man-hour estimates and material cost calculations.
  • Support Proposal Managers during technical discussions with clients.

C. Project Execution

  • Ensure project objectives, quality expectations, and contractual requirements are met.
  • Take corrective actions when necessary and escalate major issues to the Technical Manager (TM).
  • Define activity lists, deliverables, and schedules for the discipline.
  • Monitor progress, control man-hour usage, and ensure effective workflow and document quality.
  • Prepare technical annexes for subcontracted work and oversee subcontractor performance.
  • Track scope changes and update man-hour and cost estimates accordingly.
  • Provide technical support to Procurement, Construction, and other project functions.
  • Support project management in technical discussions with clients.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations, and follow up with vendors.
  • Contribute to construction inspection plans and manage vendor inspection/test plans.

D. Construction & Start-Up

  • Support site teams in implementing engineering solutions during construction and commissioning.

E. Home Office Activities

  • Validate man-hour and cost estimates.
  • Review key project documents in line with internal procedures.
  • Assist in solving complex or non-standard technical issues.
  • Update discipline workflows, standards, and contribute to execution plan development.
  • Monitor discipline KPIs and participate in vendor technical qualification and procurement strategy activities.
