Lead Planning Engineer (Offshore Oil & Gas)

Doha, Qatar

Role Overview

Lead Engineer Planning is responsible for developing, maintaining, and controlling integrated project schedules for large-scale offshore Oil & Gas projects, particularly process platforms. The role reports to the Project Controls Manager and provides leadership within the Planning function, ensuring alignment across engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain detailed project schedules for offshore Oil & Gas projects, with a focus on process platforms
  • Monitor project progress against baseline schedules, identify deviations, and propose corrective and recovery actions
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning teams to ensure schedule alignment with project milestones
  • Perform schedule risk analysis and maintain project risk registers
  • Prepare and issue weekly and monthly progress reports, highlighting schedule performance and critical path impacts
  • Support contracts change management activities, including delay analysis and claims preparation
  • Participate in project close-out activities, including lessons learned and feedback to relevant departments
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide Senior Planning Engineers and Planning Engineers, ensuring consistent application of planning standards and best practices

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in offshore Oil & Gas projects, with specific experience on process platforms
  • Proven experience leading and supervising planning teams on large EPC projects

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6; working knowledge of MS Project, SAP, PRISM, and Microsoft Office
  • Solid understanding of project planning methodologies, WBS development, cost control principles, and progress measurement systems
  • Experience in schedule risk management, documentation control, and contract change and claims processes
  • Ability to analyse project performance data and generate clear, actionable insights
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder coordination skills
