We are seeking an experienced Downstream Process Engineer specializing in Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) to support refinery operations and performance improvement initiatives.
The role focuses on providing deep technical expertise to optimize FCC unit performance, enhance reliability, and drive operational excellence across refining assets through both on-site and remote support.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed performance assessments of FCC units, analyzing KPIs such as yield, reliability, safety, operability, and profitability.
- Develop and deliver benchmarking reports with clear recommendations for performance improvement.
- Provide hands-on technical support in troubleshooting, optimization, debottlenecking, revamp, and upgrade activities.
- Lead and support initiatives aimed at improving process safety, cost efficiency, and production yields.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing workshops and promote best practices across operations teams.
- Develop and implement engineering standards and maintenance best practices for FCC units.
- Support project teams with technical expertise in FCC design, engineering, and procurement activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) to ensure integrated performance.
- Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry standards.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, catalysts, and optimization strategies for FCC performance improvement.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and operational guidelines.
- Participate in incident investigations related to FCC operations when required.
- Deliver technical training and mentor junior engineers and operators.
- Support business planning activities, including capital investment evaluations for FCC units.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (Master's preferred).
- Minimum 15 years of refinery experience, including at least 10 years focused on FCC operations and optimization.
- Strong track record of improving FCC unit performance (yield, reliability, cost efficiency).
- In-depth knowledge of FCC systems, including:
- Reactor and regenerator operations
- Catalyst management
- Fractionation processes
- Strong understanding of FCC catalyst chemistry and feedstock selection.
- Expertise in diagnosing and resolving FCC operational issues (e.g., afterburn, circulation problems, product quality deviations).
- Proficiency in process simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS or Petro-SIM.
- Solid understanding of refinery economics and FCC contribution to profitability.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., API, ASME).
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
