Job Description

Legal Counsel, Energy and Projects

We have partnered exclusively with an international energy company on the appointment of a Legal Counsel to join its legal team, supporting the development, execution and operation of major LNG and energy infrastructure projects globally.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious energy lawyer to move into a highly commercial role, gaining significant exposure to sophisticated cross-border transactions, LNG commercial arrangements and major infrastructure projects. The position will be based in Dubai and will report to the Senior Counsel.

So why this role in particular

  • International LNG exposure – work across complex LNG, energy and infrastructure projects in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Genuine transactional breadth – gain hands-on exposure across project development, commercial contracts, project finance, construction and maritime matters.
  • High-quality work – advise on sophisticated cross-border transactions and major energy infrastructure projects.
  • Business-facing role – work closely with commercial, finance, operations, technical and project development teams.
  • Room to grow – take increasing ownership of transactions and legal matters as your experience develops.

What you'll be doing:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of project and commercial agreements, including LNG SPAs, gas sale and transportation agreements, terminal use and regasification agreements, vessel charter arrangements, EPC and construction contracts and project documentation.
  • Supporting international LNG and energy infrastructure development, transaction execution and project finance activity.
  • Advising commercial, finance, operations, technical and project teams on contractual issues and legal risk.
  • Supporting contract implementation, due diligence, project approvals, corporate governance and the management of contractual claims and disputes.
  • Working with external counsel and advisers across multiple jurisdictions while developing practical, commercially focused advice for internal stakeholders.

Who we're looking for:

  • A 4–7 PQE qualified lawyer, ideally admitted in England & Wales, or another recognised common law jurisdiction.
  • Strong training and experience gained with a top-tier international law firm.
  • Experience across LNG/energy, project development and/or project finance, with strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • LNG experience is particularly attractive, including exposure to LNG supply, regasification, terminals or vessel-related arrangements.
  • Prior in-house or client secondment experience would be advantageous, as would experience working on cross-border projects or transactions in emerging markets.

This should particularly appeal to a lawyer who wants to move closer to the commercial side of major energy transactions while still working on technically sophisticated legal matters.
