Reports to: Logistics Manager, Athletics - Office of Athletics
Purpose: The jobholder ensures the safety and well-being of all patrons using the University's aquatic facilities. The role involves maintaining constant surveillance of the pool area to prevent accidents, responding immediately to emergencies with appropriate rescue techniques and first aid, and assisting in the general administration and maintenance of the pool deck to ensure a safe and clean environment.
Responsibilities:
Safety Surveillance and Emergency Response:
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in and around the swimming pool facility to prevent accidents
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency, utilizing approved rescue techniques
- Provide emergency care and treatment, e.g. cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or First Aid, as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Adhere to using protective equipment when intervening in the event of an incident
Facility Maintenance and Operations:
- Perform various maintenance duties around the pool deck and office, such as straightening deck chairs or umbrellas, and checking rescue equipment and clocks. Report any behavioral concerns to management to minimize the risk of misconduct
- Ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and operationally ready for daily use
Administration and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports, including filling out incident reports for any injuries or behavioral issues
- Assist in the scheduling and administration of the swimming pool as directed
Shift Flexibility:
- Willingness to cover and rotate across different shifts based on operational needs and scheduling requirements
Additional Support:
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
- University degree is required
- Mandatory Certification: Lifesaving and CPR certificate from the Egyptian Diving and Lifesaving Federation
Experience:
A minimum of four years of previous experience, with at least two years as a lifeguard
Skills:
- Physical: Ability to pass a timed 400-meter swim fitness test and a pre-employment physical skill evaluation
- Technical: Knowledge and demonstration of CPR, emergency medical procedures, and lifeguarding surveillance techniques
- Response: Ability to react calmly and efficiently in emergency situations
- Language: Basic proficiency in English
- Service: Knowledge of customer service standards with ability to follow verbal and written instructions
