About the Role
We're looking for a Liferay Frontend Developer to design, build, and maintain user-facing experiences within Liferay DXP — including custom themes, layouts, and reusable components. You'll work closely with backend developers, UX/UI designers, and content teams to deliver polished, responsive, and performant Liferay-based portals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and customize Liferay themes using Freemarker templates, theme CSS/SASS, and Liferay's client-side build too.
- Build and maintain custom widgets/portlets and client extensions to extend out-of-the-box Liferay functionality.
- Implement responsive, accessible, and bilingual/RTL-ready page layouts using Liferay's Page Builder / Experience pages.
- Integrate frontend components with Liferay's Fragment and Application Display Templates (ADTs) for content-driven pages.
- Consume Liferay's Headless APIs where needed for dynamic or JavaScript-driven components.
- Configure and customize Liferay's navigation, site structure, and page templates.
- Optimize frontend performance (asset bundling, caching, lazy loading) within the Liferay rendering pipeline.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate design systems into reusable Liferay theme components and fragments.
- Troubleshoot rendering, layout, and performance issues specific to the Liferay platform.
- Stay current with Liferay DXP release updates and apply relevant frontend best practices.
- Support content editors/administrators in understanding how content structures map to frontend presentation.
Requirements
- 4–7+ years of frontend development experience, including hands-on work building Liferay themes, fragments, widgets, and ADTs.
- Strong knowledge of Freemarker templating, HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and JavaScript (ES 6+).
- Experience with Liferay's client-side build tools (Liferay JS Toolkit, Yeoman generators, or Liferay Workspace).
- Understanding of Liferay's Page Builder, Fragments, and Content/Experience pages.
- Familiarity with Liferay's permissions/roles model as it affects frontend behavior.
- Solid grasp of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA), and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience working with bilingual and RTL-aware interfaces is a plus.
- Comfortable collaborating with backend developers on portlet/module integration.
Nice to have
- Liferay Application Developer Certified (LAD) / Building Enterprise Websites with Liferay (BEWL).
- Experience with modern JS frameworks (React/Vue) embedded within Liferay via Client Extensions.
- Familiarity with Liferay's Headless Delivery/Content APIs for hybrid headless/traditional implementations.
- Experience with Liferay Workspace, Gradle/Maven build setups, and Liferay DXP Cloud deployments.
- Exposure to design systems and componentized theme architecture.
