Job Description

Macroeconomist (African Markets) - competitive salary - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

An established investment platform operating across emerging and frontier markets is looking to strengthen its macroeconomic research capability with the addition of a Macroeconomist. The firm is known for combining in-depth economic analysis with a disciplined investment approach, supporting decision-making across a diverse range of markets and asset classes. As part of its continued international growth, the organisation is expanding its footprint in the Middle East, with Abu Dhabi serving as a key hub for regional and global activity.

Role

This position sits within a specialist macro research team that works closely with investment professionals. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of macro views that directly inform portfolio strategy, offering strong exposure to the investment process.

The role is particularly focused on African frontier and emerging economies, covering a broad and diverse set of markets across the continent. It is well suited to an economist looking to apply their expertise in a more commercially focused, investment-led environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce in-depth macroeconomic research across a range of African markets
  • Develop forward-looking views on key economic indicators including growth, inflation, and external balances
  • Assess fiscal dynamics and monetary policy frameworks across covered jurisdictions
  • Interpret political and structural developments and their implications for markets
  • Connect regional analysis with global macroeconomic trends
  • Translate economic insights into clear, actionable investment perspectives
  • Present research to internal stakeholders, including senior investment professionals
  • Support thematic work and cross-country comparative analysis
  • Collaborate with colleagues across international offices

Key Skills

  • Experience in macroeconomic analysis with exposure to African economies
  • Background from investment management, banking, economic consulting, public sector institutions, or similar environments
  • Strong academic grounding in economics or a related quantitative field
  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skillset, including experience with econometric tools
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Interest in financial markets and how macroeconomic trends influence investment decisions
  • Self-starter with strong intellectual curiosity and attention to detail
  • Fluency in English is essential; additional languages are advantageous

Benefits

  • Opportunity to join a growing regional office with global integration
  • Direct exposure to macro-driven investment strategy
  • Close interaction with experienced economists and portfolio managers
  • Broad coverage across frontier and emerging markets
  • Competitive compensation and strong long-term career development

This opportunity would suit an economist looking to transition further into an investment-focused role while maintaining strong analytical depth. The position offers meaningful responsibility and the chance to contribute directly to market-facing decisions
