Job Description

How You'll Help Us Keep Climbing (Overview & Key Responsibilities)

The Digital Catering and In-Flight Solutions (DCIS) team is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering with strong analytics engineering capabilities to own and evolve critical data pipelines and analytical data products that power operational, commercial, and customer-facing insights. This role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership, partnering closely with analysts, business stakeholders, and platform teams to ensure trusted, scalable, and analytics-ready data across the DCIS domain.

This role is ideal for a senior individual contributor who enjoys setting technical direction, driving standards, and translating business problems into durable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Architecture (Primary)

  • Lead the design, development, and operation of scalable data pipelines and curated data layers across DCIS data domains.
  • Own ingestion, transformation, and modeling of structured and semi-structured data from enterprise systems, including Salesforce and related platforms.
  • Design analytics-ready data models that support reporting, dashboards, and advanced analytics use cases.
  • Ensure data reliability through proactive data quality checks, monitoring, and validation at critical control points.
  • Optimize SQL and transformation logic for performance, cost efficiency, and long-term maintainability.

Analytics Enablement & Data Products

  • Partner closely with DCIS analysts and business teams to translate reporting and insight needs into well-structured data assets.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for downstream analytics consumers (BI, reporting, ad‑hoc analysis).
  • Enable self-service analytics by improving data accessibility, documentation, and semantic consistency.
  • Support BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI by delivering clean, performant, and well-documented datasets.

Technical Leadership & Ways of Working

  • Set and reinforce best practices for data modeling, pipeline design, testing, version control, and documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and reviews for other engineers and analysts contributing to shared data assets.
  • Partner with platform, architecture, and security teams to align solutions with enterprise standards.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, prioritization, and Agile delivery practices within DCIS.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize legacy workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve scalability.

What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 14+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or closely related roles, 3 years of people leadership
  • Expert-level SQL skills and strong experience with Python-based data processing.
  • Proven experience building and owning ETL/ELT pipelines in AWS environment
  • AWS Glue, Lambda, MWAA (Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow)
  • AWS monitoring and security
  • Amazon S3, Athena, Redshift/Teradata
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and analytics-focused data design.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with analytics and business teams to deliver data products that drive decisions.
  • Experience in Team Leadership: Managed, mentored, coached and developed teams, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment
  • Experience in Resource Allocation, Capacity Planning & Resource utilization
  • Experience in Performance Management by providing regular performance feedback, recognizing achievements and addressing areas for improvement.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience working with Salesforce data (e.g., Sales Cloud, Marketing Cloud, CRM Analytics) and related integrations.
  • Experience supporting operational data domains.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction without formal authority.
