Job Summary
As a Manager in the Indirect Tax department with a focus on Global Trade Advisory and Customs at Deloitte, you will be a part of a dynamic team and will play a central role in delivering complex global trade engagements across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, while being embedded in a collaborative global network of trade specialists. This is a client-facing leadership role that combines deep technical expertise with project management responsibilities and a focus on business development. The successful candidate will help grow the trade advisory practice in Egypt and the broader MEA region, acting as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to clients navigating an increasingly complex trade and regulatory environment.
Responsibilities
Client Delivery
- Lead and manage global trade and customs engagements including customs compliance reviews, import/export classification (HS tariff classification), valuation audits, origin determination, and free trade agreement (FTA) utilization studies.
- Advise clients on customs duty optimization strategies, including preferential trade programs, bonded warehouse structures, free zone optimization, and duty deferral mechanisms.
- Manage customs dispute resolution processes, including responding to customs authority inquiries, audits, and voluntary disclosures.
- Provide guidance on Egyptian customs regulations, the Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA) framework, and relevant WTO commitments applicable to Egypt.
- Advise on trade compliance program design and implementation, including import/export control frameworks, sanctions screening, and anti-dumping/countervailing duty exposure.
Project & Team Management
- Lead project teams comprising junior consultants and analysts, overseeing quality of work, timelines, and budget adherence.
- Manage day-to-day client relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for mid-level client stakeholders (Head of Customs, VP Supply Chain, CFO office).
- Mentor and develop junior team members, supporting their technical and professional growth.
Business Development
- Actively contribute to practice growth through proposals, thought leadership, and market outreach.
- Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities with other service lines (transfer pricing, indirect tax, supply chain advisory).
- Build and maintain a network of senior contacts across industry, government, and regulatory bodies in Egypt and the broader region.
Knowledge & Regulatory Monitoring
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments in Egyptian and regional trade and customs law.
- Contribute to firm publications, client alerts, and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Economics, Business Administration, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A postgraduate degree (LLM, MBA, or Master's in International Trade/Economics) is a strong advantage
- Professional certifications in customs or trade compliance are highly desirable (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist, CCLP, or equivalent internationally recognized credential).
- Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs laws, import/export compliance, and relevant trade agreements (e.g., WTO, NAFTA, CETA, TPP).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in customs and trade, prior experience with a Big 4 accounting firm or a global trade consulting firm is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with customs valuation, tariff classification, country of origin determination, and other customs-related concepts.
- Proficiency in both Arabic and English is required (written and spoken). French is an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to practical situations.
- Proficiency in using trade management systems, customs software, and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact confidently with clients and team members at all levels.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a desire to continuously learn and develop expertise in global trade and customs.
