The Marine Electrical Engineer is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic systems onboard vessels or within marine facilities. The role ensures that all electrical equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with maritime regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair marine electrical and electronic systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment, including generators, motors, switchboards, transformers, and distribution systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and repair navigation, communication, automation, alarm, and monitoring systems.
  • Conduct testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Monitor the performance and reliability of onboard electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, classification society requirements, and company safety standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams during repairs, dry dockings, and vessel upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Assist in planning maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and equipment procurement.
  • Supervise contractors and technicians during electrical installation and repair work when required.
  • Ensure adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and support troubleshooting during vessel operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in marine electrical systems or electrical safety are an advantage.
  • Valid STCW certification (for onboard positions), if applicable.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in marine electrical engineering, ship maintenance, offshore operations, or shipbuilding.
  • Experience working on commercial vessels, offshore support vessels, yachts, passenger ships, or marine facilities is preferred.
  • Experience with marine automation and control systems is an advantage.
