BEDO Innovating Education is Hiring: Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in Machine Design and Sheet Metal to design and develop custom machinery, testing equipment, mechanical assemblies, and specialized engineering systems from concept through manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop custom machines, mechanical systems, assemblies, and sheet metal components from concept to manufacturing.
Create detailed 3D models and production-ready 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
Perform motion studies and mechanical design analysis to validate machine functionality.
Apply GD&T principles to ensure accurate and manufacturable designs.
Perform mechanical calculations including stress/strain, shaft sizing, bolt connections, and component selection.
Select appropriate standard mechanical components such as motors, gearboxes, bearings, actuators, and other drive systems.
Design and optimize sheet metal parts and assemblies considering fabrication requirements, material selection, bending, cutting, and assembly.
Collaborate with fabrication workshops, CNC vendors, production, and assembly teams to resolve Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) challenges.
Participate in prototype testing, identify design issues, and implement necessary improvements.
Ensure all designs meet required quality, safety, performance, and manufacturability standards.
Optimize designs for cost efficiency, reliability, ease of manufacturing, and assembly.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
3–5+ years of hands-on experience in Mechanical Design, Custom Machine Design, or Specialized Equipment Design.
Expert proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
Strong experience in Sheet Metal Design and Fabrication.
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, including:
CNC Machining
Sheet Metal Fabrication
Structural Welding
Machining & Assembly Processes
Strong knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings.
Good understanding of mechanical components, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
Experience with mechanical calculations and/or FEA is highly preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work effectively with production and fabrication teams and translate designs into manufacturable products.
