Media Lab Assistant
SECTION I: JOB PURPOSE
This position aims to help support students in their TV studio, radio & editing lab courses. This role offers tutorial sessions to students in operating a professional television studio system and related equipment such as lighting, vision mixing, editing and audio systems. In addition, the position also takes care of various technical functions related to production and post-production.
SECTION II: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Lab Teaching and Learning
- Facilitates media lab and editing lab use for students during operating hours
- Oversees the preparation and maintenance of various equipment
- Assists students with their coursework projects and assists with student events
- Keeping the media and editing labs in a sound working condition.
- Providing all necessary technical support to students as well as faculty who use the studio
- Providing all necessary lab tutorials and demo sessions to the students.
- Supervising students during studio sessions
- To assist the media lab specialist in achieving the tasks set by the department /college.
Lab and equipment management
- Facilitate media lab use for students via bookings during operating hours
- Keeping the media labs in a sound working condition.
- To remain current on new technology, methodology, and equipment.
- To organize equipment storage area, maintain inventory, assist with equipment check out for staff members, and assemble carts with the necessary equipment during the day.
Health and safety
- Ensure compliance with all relevant aspects of health & safety while undertaking duties.
- Ensure all the Media Lab users comply with all relevant aspects of health & safety.
- Ensure all safety guidelines are always followed strictly.
- Maintain a clean and orderly lab environment.
General support
- Assist in administrative tasks such as correspondence, proctoring, etc.
- Assist with student events, media productions, support during open days, and outreach activities with prospective students.
SECTION III: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication specializing in Broadcasting, Media Production, New Media, or any other relevant field.
- 1-2 years of experience
- Experience in a higher educational institution is preferred
- English is a must; Arabic is preferred
- Technical knowledge in the use of various Media lab equipment
- Communication skills
- Coordination skills
