What ACES is Looking For
ACES is looking for a Microbiologist to join our team in Doha, Qatar.
Job Summary:
Performs microbiological sampling and laboratory analysis on variety of samples (environmental, food, etc.) as per established standard test methods/standard operation procedures.
.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct various microbiological testing assigned to him/her including sampling, sample and media preparation.
- Ensure the microbiological sampling and tests are carried out according to required standard test methods/SOPs and per customers requirements.
- Record test data accurately in accordance with related test methods and SOPs. Check laboratory worksheets for accuracy of data entry and calculations before their submission to concerned supervisor for review and reporting.
- In accordance with the applicable SOPs, conduct and record data for reagents and media preparation, for sterility checks of pre-sterilized consumables and laboratory supplies, and for verification of reagents, media, microbiological cultures.
- Conducting method validation experiments under the direction of the Senior Microbiologist.
- Analysis of PT samples assigned to him/her.
- Participate in training sessions and seminars, provide on the job training to other fellow chemists.
- Monitor and record environmental conditions in the microbiological lab including ambient temperature, humidity, air quality and the indications of temperature and humidity conditioning devices.
- Applies the requirements for good housekeeping, including sterile/aseptic techniques, cleaning and sterilization of consumables, glassware, equipment, laboratory, etc.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus in good working order, following appropriate procedures for usage, clean-up/sterilization, calibration and maintenance. Inform Senior Microbiologist for equipment defects/breakdowns when required.
- Implement ACES Quality Management System requirements.
- Implements the requirements of ACES HSE Management system including using of appropriate protective tools and safe work with and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Any duties or responsibilities assigned by the management.
Reporting To:
This position will directly report to the Civil Lab Supervisor.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in biology or microbiology.
- 0-2 years of experience in testing laboratory specialized in microbiological testing of food, and environmental samples.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Fundamentals of Biology and Microbiology.
- General knowledge of general science and mathematics including algebra, statistics and data analysis.
- A good knowledge of the microbiological principles, techniques, terminology and procedures applicable to the separation, preservation and identification of microorganisms.
- Proper sample collection procedures and techniques.
- Mathematical calculations used in microbiology analyses.
- Standard reference methods and standard operation procedures.
- International and local technical specifications related to the scope of tested materials (GSO, QCC, WHO, etc. as applicable)
- Proper use, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including the sterilization of equipment, supplies, and hazardous biological materials
- Awareness of requirements of ISO 17025 and ACES Quality Management System
- Awareness of requirements of ACES HSE Management System and especially, working with hazardous chemicals and hazardous waste disposal.
- Good technical reading and writing skills in English language
- LIMS, Ms. Word, MS Excel, Ms. Outlook.
