Our office in Abu Dhabi is recruiting for a Motor Surveyor who is responsible for conducting professional and independent assessments of motor vehicle damages arising from accidents and other covered incidents. The role involves inspecting vehicles, determining the extent and nature of damage, assessing repairability, preparing accurate repair estimates, verifying repair costs, and providing technical recommendations to support fair, efficient, and controlled motor claims settlement.
The Motor Surveyor shall ensure that all assessments are conducted objectively, consistently, and in accordance with the insurance policy terms, applicable UAE regulations, company claims procedures, and accepted automotive repair standards.
This position reports to Motor Claims Manager / Head of Motor Claims
Responsibilities
A. Vehicle Inspection & Damage Assessment
- Conduct physical inspections of damaged vehicles following accidents or insured events.
- Identify and document all visible and consequential damage.
- Determine whether reported damages are consistent with the circumstances of the accident.
- Assess the severity and extent of vehicle damage.
B. Repair Cost Estimation
- Prepare accurate repair estimates based on the assessed damage.
- Review labour requirements, spare parts, paint/material costs, and other repair-related expenses.
- Evaluate quotations submitted by garages and compare them with prevailing market rates.
C. Claims Technical Assessment
- Provide technical recommendations to the Claims Department regarding the appropriate repair methodology and estimated cost.
- Assess whether a vehicle should be repaired or considered a total loss in accordance with company policy and applicable claims procedures.
- Calculate or assist in determining the estimated repair percentage against the vehicle's applicable value.
D. Garage Management & Repair Monitoring
- Liaise with approved repairers and workshops regarding repair estimates and scope of work.
- Monitor the repair process when required.
- Conduct supplementary inspections where additional damage is discovered during dismantling.
- Verify supplementary estimates before recommending approval.
E. Claims Documentation
- Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive survey reports.
- Maintain photographic evidence and supporting documentation for each inspection.
- Record inspection findings accurately in the company's claims system.
- Ensure that estimates and reports are submitted within agreed service-level timelines.
F. Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Deal professionally with policyholders, claimants, brokers, garages, repairers, and other stakeholders.
- Explain technical findings and repair requirements clearly when required.
- Handle disagreements regarding damage assessment professionally and objectively.
- Coordinate with claims handlers, loss adjusters, investigators, underwriting, and other internal departments when required.
- Maintain professional relationships with approved garages while preserving the insurer's interests.
G. Fraud Prevention & Risk Identification
- Identify indicators of potential fraudulent or exaggerated claims.
- Detect inconsistencies between accident circumstances, vehicle damage, photographs, and supporting documents.

- Perform all surveying activities in accordance with applicable UAE insurance regulations and regulatory requirements.
- Follow the insurer's claims policies, delegated authorities, survey procedures, and approved repairer guidelines.
5. Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Professional motor-vehicle surveying or claims experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle construction, repair methodology, spare parts, painting, mechanical and electrical components.
- Knowledge of UAE motor insurance claims practices is highly preferred.
- Valid UAE driving licence.
- Ability to inspect different vehicle makes and models, including luxury, commercial, hybrid, and electric vehicles.
Recommended experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in motor surveying, motor claims, automotive repair, dealership, workshop, or insurance-related technical assessment.
- Experience with UAE garages and insurance repair networks is preferred.
- Experience with total-loss assessment, repair-cost negotiation, and supplementary estimates is an advantage.
