Role Purpose
To conduct curatorial research as a basis for planning, develop storylines and lead in content development in textual and visual presentation in collaboration with the Exhibition Section Manager, to create a minimum of 2 exhibitions per year within National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, other activated heritage sites within the emirate and beyond in service of RAK Government's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in developing storyline, exhibition ideas, and thematic structures for the artifacts displayed in the current and future museums galleries and exhibitions within and outside the UAE, ensuring it has all the requirements such as historical accuracy, appropriate verbal and visual communication, and relevant translation.
- Provide creative direction on exhibition design, atmosphere, and visitor experience.
- Collaborate with the Exhibition Manager in the selection of prominent artifacts and other supportive objects to support the intended storyline.
- Ensure all displays are in line with the agreed policies and procedures which may include but may not be limited to cleanliness, safety, and climate conditions.
- Lead in the development of the plan to organize current and future displays inside or outside the country to ensure the UAE culture and history are reflected according to the national identity.
- Participate in museum exhibition projects within and outside the Emirate and coordinate with local or international partners in the field.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to the section in cooperation with the Department Manager.
External Collaboration
Coordinate and build relationships with:
- RAK Tourism Department
- International Committee of Museums (ICOM)
- Museums within the UAE such as Louvre Abu Dhabi
- International museums
- Private museums within the UAE
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in history, Archaeology, Anthropology, Heritage, Tourism, or any relevant discipline. Preferred: Master's degree in museums or a related field with cultural studies, storytelling, or curating.
- Minimum experience of 6 years. Preferred: 10 years of experience.
- Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) is essential.
