Software Engineer (SONiC & Optical Circuit Switch Software Development)

About the Role
Our client is looking for a Software Engineer to develop and enhance software for next-generation Ethernet and Optical Circuit Switching (OCS) platforms.
You will work on SONiC-based network operating systems, helping to build scalable, high-performance networking solutions for data centre and optical networking applications.
You will collaborate closely with software, hardware, ASIC, and system engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and integrate northbound interfaces using gNMI/gNOI and OpenConfig YANG models within SONiC.
- Develop and enhance SONiC Network Operating System (NOS) software for Ethernet and Optical Circuit Switching platforms.
- Design and maintain SONiC Redis database schemas and synchronization mechanisms across software components.
- Develop, containerize, and optimize SONiC services using Docker.
- Build automated testing, validation, and simulation frameworks for platform bring-up and API verification.
- Debug and optimize networking software across Linux and containerized environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver integrated networking solutions.
- Contribute to software quality, code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong programming experience in C/C++ and Python.
- Experience developing software on Linux-based systems.
- Good understanding of networking concepts and network operating systems.
- Experience with one or more of the following is highly preferred: SONiC Network Operating SystemgNMI / gNOIOpenConfig YANG modelsRedis databasesDocker or containerized applicationsLinux networking and system software
- Experience developing software for Ethernet switching, network infrastructure, SDN, or optical networking is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
- Able to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and international engineering teams.
