Job Description

Job Purpose

The NMD lab teaching assistant supports the academic and operational needs of the New Media Design program, working closely with both faculty and students across areas of digital design, visual communication, 3D modelling, animation, motion graphics, UX/UI, interactive media, and related disciplines.

The role serves as a mediator between faculty and students, supporting faculty in the effective delivery of their courses while providing students with an additional and accessible layer of academic, technical, and creative support. A central responsibility of the role is to contribute to a learning environment in which students feel safe, seen, supported, and included, and where they are comfortable asking questions, experimenting, developing their skills, and seeking guidance.

Currently we are looking mainly for expertise in 3D modelling, animation, motion graphics, UX/UI, gaming, AI for designers, and related topics.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day academic and administrative requirements of the NMD program.
  • Assist faculty with the preparation and organization of course materials, digital resources, assignment documentation, presentations, and supplementary learning resources.
  • Support the organization of course content and resources across relevant university learning platforms.
  • Assist with coordinating workshops, demonstrations, student presentations, critiques, exhibitions, and other program activities.
  • Maintain and organize relevant digital learning resources, software-related documentation, tutorials, and technical guides for students.
  • Coordinate with relevant university departments and external vendors where software, digital tools, licenses, technical services, or other program resources are required.
  • Support the implementation and communication of relevant departmental and institutional procedures.
  • Perform other administrative and academic support responsibilities aligned with the needs of the NMD program.
  • Support faculty during classes, workshops, demonstrations, critiques, and practical sessions.
  • Assist faculty in preparing lectures, exercises, demonstrations, references, and supplementary learning resources.
  • Provide technical demonstrations and guidance in relevant areas such as Adobe Creative Suite, digital design, 3D modelling, animation, motion graphics, UX/UI, prototyping, and other NMD-related tools and workflows.
  • Support students during practical exercises, software-based activities, critiques, and project development under the direction of course faculty.
  • When asked, assist with pre-grading, assignment preparation, project reviews, and critique preparation where appropriate, while faculty retain responsibility for final assessment and course delivery.
  • Identify and share relevant references, tutorials, software workflows, contemporary practices, and industry examples that complement the curriculum upon approval.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to identify areas where students may benefit from additional demonstrations, resources, or technical support.
  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary learning environment by connecting relevant skills and practices across different NMD courses.
  • Serve as an accessible point of academic and technical support for NMD students across their coursework and projects.
  • Support students in developing confidence with digital design tools, 3D modelling, animation, motion graphics, UX/UI, prototyping, and related creative workflows.
  • Provide individual or small-group guidance where students require additional clarification or technical assistance.
  • Help students troubleshoot software, workflow, and project-development challenges while encouraging independent thinking and problem-solving.

Required Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree in in areas related to Multimedia Design, New Media Design, Animation, Gaming, 3D Modelling, or a closely related field.

● Knowledge of photo and video equipment operation, including cameras, lighting, sound recording, and editing software is desired.

● Proficiency in relevant design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects).

● Knowledge of UX/UI design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and web development basics (HTML, CSS, WordPress, etc.) is desired.

● Familiarity with motion graphics, animation, and video production techniques.

● Experience in managing design and multimedia labs or similar environments.

● Experience providing technical and instructional support to students and faculty in creative disciplines.

● Ability to troubleshoot equipment and software issues effectively.

● Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Adobe Creative Suite or other design tools.
  • Experience with 3D design, AR/VR, or app prototyping tools.
  • Experience with cloud-based design tools and collaborative platforms.
  • Prior experience working in educational institutions or training settings.
