The Ocean Freight Clearance Executive will be responsible for managing customs clearance activities for FCL and LCL ocean freight shipments. The role involves preparing customs declarations, verifying shipping documentation, coordinating with customs and port authorities, managing customs duties and approvals, and ensuring timely cargo release while maintaining compliance with UAE Customs regulations and company SOPs.
Responsibilities:
1. Ocean Freight Customs Clearance
- Process customs clearance for FCL and LCL shipments.
- Prepare and submit import, export, re-export, and transit declarations through UAE customs systems.
- Coordinate with customs authorities and port operators to ensure timely shipment clearance.
- Arrange customs inspections and obtain approvals from relevant government authorities where required.
- Resolve customs queries, shipment holds, and documentation discrepancies promptly.
2. Documentation & Customs Compliance
- Verify Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, Delivery Orders, Import/Export Permits, and other required documentation.
- Ensure accurate HS Code classification of cargo.
- Calculate customs duties, VAT, and other applicable charges.
- Ensure compliance with UAE Customs regulations, Free Zone procedures, and company SOPs.
- Maintain accurate customs records and documentation for audits and compliance purposes.
3. Port & Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with customs authorities, port operators, shipping lines, freight agents, customers, and internal teams.
- Follow up on customs inspections, approvals, cargo releases, and shipment status.
- Proactively identify clearance issues and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to resolve them.
- Provide timely updates to customers and internal teams regarding shipment clearance and release status.
4. Operational & Customer Support
- Monitor shipment clearance timelines and ensure cargo is released within agreed service levels.
- Support the team in resolving customs and documentation-related operational issues.
- Maintain accurate shipment records and update relevant operational systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve clearance processes and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in ocean freight customs clearance, freight forwarding, or customs brokerage.
- Hands-on experience with FCL and LCL customs clearance in the UAE.
- Experience working with ports, shipping lines, and customs authorities is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of UAE Customs regulations and clearance procedures.
- Understanding of FCL/LCL documentation and ocean freight processes.
- Knowledge of HS Code classification, customs valuation, duties, and VAT.
- Familiarity with UAE customs systems and port procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
