Reports to: Manager, J-PAL Research
Role Purpose
The job holder will assist in and lead the execution of high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) MENA at AUC. Working directly on research projects, the role provides essential technical and field support, from cleaning and analyzing quantitative datasets using STATA, R, or Python to supervising field survey staff, ensuring data integrity, managing logistical operations, and communicating with external research partners in alignment with the scientific requirements of Principal Investigators (PIs) and J-PAL research standards.
Core Responsibilities
Data Analysis and Management:
- Perform independent data analysis using STATA or R to establish project baselines, midlines, and endlines
- Clean and organize complex datasets to ensure readiness for academic analysis
- Interpret data findings and prepare data visualizations and tables for publication, while ensuring precise visualization of findings, statistical integrity, and data-driven project insights for PIs and donors
Field Research and Logistics:
- Supervise the field logistics for randomized control trials, ensuring interventions are delivered as planned
- Oversee contracted field survey staff to monitor data collection quality
- Provide logistical support for field visits by PIs, partners, and donors, while ensuring seamless execution and adherence to budget timelines
Project Support and Communication:
- Communicate with partner organizations, e.g. government, NGO, and private sector, regarding data requests and project status
- Support the development of new research projects and create research public goods for the team
- Prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, while ensuring continuous improvement of team-wide methodologies and J-PAL's mission

Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree with significant training in economics or data
- MA in policy, economics, or statistics is a plus
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience, including at least two years in field or empirical research, e.g. undergraduate research assistantships, internships, or academic research projects
- Significant coursework or training in economics at the undergraduate or master's level
- Mandatory proficiency in STATA, R, or Python data analysis software
- Proven track record in interpreting data analysis and academic writing
Technical Skills:
- Advanced Technical: Expert proficiency in STATA, R, or Python data analysis software, with strong ability to manage complex data structures and field data security
- Field Supervision: Proven capacity to manage contracted survey teams, maintain project timelines, and enforce quality control standards on field implementation
- Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with PIs, government entities, and donors
