Job Summary
The Operations Engineer ensures that the automated concrete batching plant runs smoothly, safely, and cost-effectively. The role focuses on maximizing plant capacity, maintaining accurate raw material mix designs, eliminating operational downtime, and coordinating transit mixers to deliver fresh concrete to construction sites within strict timeframes.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Plant Supervision: Oversee day-to-day operations of automated batching plants to meet production targets. Monitor weigh-batching systems to ensure exact proportions of cement, water, aggregates, and chemical admixtures.
- Process Optimization: Analyze plant performance metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like yards loaded per hour. Implement lean manufacturing or automated tracking methods to reduce raw material waste and cycle times.
- Maintenance Management: Coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all plant assets, including mechanical mixers, storage silos, conveyor belts, and chillers. Schedule and document routine equipment calibrations.
- Quality Control (QC) Alignment: Partner closely with the laboratory and QC teams to verify that concrete batches comply with international engineering standards .
- Logistics & Dispatch Coordination: Work alongside the fleet dispatch team to schedule transit mixers and concrete pumps. Manage route efficiency to guarantee concrete arrives at construction sites before initial setting occurs.
- Inventory Control: Track and manage on-site stock levels of raw materials like sand, aggregates, cement, and chemical additives to prevent supply shortages or over-purchasing.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Enforce local industrial safety regulations, proper environmental disposal of sludge/concrete waste, and ensure the team adheres to personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: Proven experience working within an industrial manufacturing setup, specifically a ready-mixed concrete plant or aggregate processing facility.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with concrete batching software, PLC control automation systems, concrete chemistry/technology, and heavy machinery operations.
- Software Proficiency: Competence with Operations Management Software, AutoCAD (for plant layout references), and data analysis tools like Excel.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, technical breakdown troubleshooting, project management, and strong communication skills to handle cross-functional teams and external raw material vendors.
