Job Description

5 years Experience In steel industry into Steel Making Plant
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma/Bachelor's
Key Responsibilities
1. CCM Pulpit Operation
- Operate the Continuous Casting Machine from the pulpit/control station as per approved operating procedures.
- Monitor CCM operating parameters continuously during casting.
- Control and adjust casting speed, mould level and other parameters according to production requirements.
- Monitor HMI/control screens and respond appropriately to alarms and abnormal conditions.
- Ensure stable casting operation throughout the heat.
2. Casting Parameter Monitoring
- Monitor critical parameters including:
- Casting speed
- Mould level
- Tundish level
- Cooling water parameters
- Strand temperature
- Withdrawal speed
- Casting sequence
- Other process parameters.
- Make necessary adjustments within approved operating limits.
- Report abnormal parameter deviations to the Shift In-Charge.
3. Ladle & Tundish Coordination
- Coordinate with the ladle preparation/handling team during ladle changes.
- Monitor tundish level and casting continuity.
- Coordinate with EAF/LRF and crane operators for smooth transfer of molten steel.
- Ensure correct heat and grade information is maintained throughout the casting sequence.
4. Mould & Strand Monitoring
- Monitor mould operation and mould-level stability.
- Identify abnormal mould conditions and take corrective action as per SOP.
- Monitor strand condition and cooling performance.
- Coordinate with field operators regarding mould, cooling and strand abnormalities.
5. Casting Abnormalities
- Respond to casting abnormalities such as:
- Breakouts
- Mould level fluctuations
- Strand problems
- Nozzle/blockage issues
- Cooling-water abnormalities
- Withdrawal problems
- Casting speed instability.
- Take immediate action according to approved emergency procedures.
- Inform the Shift In-Charge and relevant teams about major abnormalities.
6. Billet Production & Quality
- Ensure billets are produced according to required size, grade and quality specifications.
- Monitor casting sequence and product identification.
- Coordinate with QC/Metallurgy regarding quality issues.
- Ensure proper heat number and traceability of billets.
- Support identification and segregation of non-conforming billets.
7. Coordination with CCM Field Team
- Coordinate continuously with field operators, tundish operators, mould operators, cutting operators and other CCM personnel.
- Communicate instructions clearly during casting operations.
- Ensure smooth coordination between the pulpit and field operations.
8. Production & Shift Handover
- Maintain production continuity according to the shift plan.
- Monitor heat/casting progress and production targets.
- Record important operating parameters and abnormalities.
- Conduct proper shift handover and communicate pending issues to the incoming operator.
9. Equipment & Housekeeping
- Monitor the condition of CCM equipment from the pulpit.
- Immediately report equipment abnormalities to Maintenance.
- Ensure the pulpit/control room is kept clean and organized.
- Maintain required operating logs and checklists.
10. Safety & HSE
- Strictly follow all steel plant safety procedures.
- Follow emergency shutdown and abnormal casting procedures.
- Use required PPE when entering operational areas.
- Follow Permit-to-Work and LOTO requirements where applicable.
- Maintain awareness of molten steel, high-temperature equipment and other plant hazards.
- Report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately.
