Operator, Electrical Shift (PG)
Job Purpose
To safely execute, coordinate, and document all electrical switching, isolation, and energization activities within the STG plant, ensuring reliable power generation, protection of personnel and equipment, and full compliance with electrical safety standards and operational procedures.
Responsibility
- Compliance with Safe electrical isolations and switching operations.
- Provides dedicated supervision & monitoring of all plant electrical systems and substations (MV/LV, UPS, DC, etc.).
- Build an electrical operations skillset in the shift team, aligned with safety audit and regulations.
- Perform authorized switching operations on LV/MV/HV equipment (breakers, isolators, transformers, busbars, feeders).
- Execute planned and unplanned isolations for maintenance, ensuring correct tagging, grounding, and safety barriers.
- Restore equipment to service following approved procedures and after verifying safe conditions.
- Coordinate switching sequences with the control room, STG operators, and operation supervisors.
- Enforce electrical safety rules, isolation and permittowork procedures.
- Identify abnormal conditions such as overheating, partial discharge, breaker misoperations, or protection trips.
- Communicate switching plans, risks, and system status to the control room and field teams.
- Provide clear handover notes and maintain accurate switching logs.
- Review the shift activities handover with outgoing shift operator; coordinate with control room operator and shift supervisor to progress unfinished work from previous shift to completion.
- Follow all relevant safety, quality and environmental control procedures and instructions so that personal safety of others is not jeopardized, and a minimum level of product/service and environmental impact can be guaranteed.
- Check and record readings, alarms, electrical parameters etc. on STG plant and related auxiliaries and report abnormalities or deviations to Control Room operator and shift supervisor for advice and further action.
- Conduct normalization of equipment on completion of maintenance work as per isolation certificate, test run equipment if required, confirm good housekeeping to ensure equipment operates safely.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedure and Work Instruction and keep as a reference to ensure work has been performed as per standard.
- Perform regular routine work (daily, weekly and monthly etc.), report abnormalities, and maintain a record as well as plant housekeeping
- Ensure compliance with regulations, standards and procedures, provide feedback and recommendations for improvement where necessary.
- Participate and provide support to train new Field operator, ensure knowledge and experience transfer to maintain high level of capability.
Position Requirements
Minimum Education Requirements
- Diploma in Electrical, Power Systems, or Industrial Electricity, Or
- Technical Diploma from a recognized institute
Minimum Experience Requirements
- 35 years of experience in electrical operations within power plants, substations, or industrial utilities 4 years relevant plant operational experience in a large industrial environment.
- Handson experience with MV/HV switching and electrical safety procedures.
- Familiarity with STG systems, generators, excitation systems, and auxiliary electrical equipment.
