The Patch Managment Specialist will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and reporting on patch management activities across multiple platforms, including Red Hat Linux, Windows Server, Citrix Applications, VMware, and Nutanix. Ensures systems remain secure, stable, and compliant with vendor recommendations and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a patch management strategy for Red Hat Linux, Windows Server, Citrix, VMware, and Nutanix environments.
- Assess, schedule, and deploy patches and updates in line with vendor advisories, security bulletins, and organizational requirements.
- Create patching plans including timelines, test strategies, rollback procedures, and maintenance windows.
- Perform pre-patching assessments (dependencies, system readiness, impact analysis) and post-patching validation.
- Monitor patch deployment success/failure rates, troubleshoot issues, and document outcomes.
- Escalate unresolved patching problems to vendors (Red Hat, Microsoft, Citrix, VMware, Nutanix) and follow up until resolution.
- Generate regular patch compliance and activity reports for IT management.
- Work closely with IT teams (infrastructure, security, applications) to minimize service impact and ensure business continuity.
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats and vulnerabilities and proactively recommend patching priorities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of patch management processes and automation.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux, Windows Server, Citrix applications, VMware vSphere/ESXi, and Nutanix clusters.
- Knowledge of vendor patching methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- Familiarity with vulnerability management and security standards (CIS, ISO 27001, NIST, etc.).
- Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, etc.) a strong plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, escalation, and vendor management skills.
- Good documentation and reporting abilities.
- Ability to work under maintenance windows (off-hours and weekends if required).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in systems administration or IT infrastructure with a focus on patch management.
- Relevant certifications preferred (RHCSA/RHCE, MCSA/MCSE, VMware VCP, Citrix CCA-V/CCP-V, Nutanix NCP).
