Job Description
* Location: Jeddah, KSA
* Division: PMO Department
* Function: Project Planning & Control
* Probation Period: Three months
* Reports to: Project Manager
Summary
The Planning Engineer develops, maintains, and analyzes project schedules to ensure timely and efficient delivery of construction projects. The role supports project leadership with clear visibility on milestones, risks, and recovery strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Develop, update, and maintain the master project schedule using Primavera P6 and MS Project, covering design, procurement, construction, and closeout phases.
* Build and maintain a clear Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), coding structures, and standardized activity naming to ensure consistency across projects and compatibility with BIM workflows.
* Align schedule WBS and activity breakdown with the BIM model structure to enable seamless 4D simulation and visualization of construction sequencing.
* Collaborate with BIM specialists to link Primavera P6 schedules with BIM models (Revit/Navisworks) for 4D coordination, clash detection timing, and visual progress tracking.
* Establish baseline schedules, manage approved changes, and maintain full traceability of revisions in line with contractual and governance requirements.
* Plan construction sequences and interfaces between trades, incorporating site logistics, long-lead items, and realistic productivity rates with consideration for spatial and temporal coordination visible through 4D models.
* Prepare and maintain look-ahead schedules (e.g., 24 week and 3-month plans) to guide day-to-day execution and short-term resource planning.
* Perform critical path and float analysis, identify schedule risks and bottlenecks, and recommend mitigation and acceleration measures where needed.
* Evaluate time impact of design changes, variations, RFIs, and unforeseen events, and support entitlement/extension of time assessments using recognized delay analysis methods.
* Monitor progress through regular updates, site walks, and contractor reports, ensuring that reported progress is consistent with actual work on site.
* Produce clear, concise schedule reports and dashboards (weekly and monthly) highlighting key milestones, variances, trends, and recommended actions for management and clients.
* Generate 4D simulation outputs and construction sequence animations for progress presentations, planning reviews, and stakeholder communication.
* Coordinate closely with project managers, discipline engineers, BIM specialists, procurement, and contractors to align schedules with design deliverables, procurement plans, and construction constraints.
* Integrate multiple contractor and subcontractor schedules into a consolidated master schedule and ensure interfaces are logically linked and realistic.
* Support risk management by identifying schedule-related risks and opportunities, contributing to risk registers, and proposing contingency strategies.
* Participate in progress and coordination meetings, presenting schedule status, clarifying assumptions, and agreeing on recovery plans when slippage occurs.
* Contribute to continuous improvement by refining planning procedures, templates, and reporting formats, and sharing lessons learned across projects.
* Coach team members on planning principles, data quality, and proper use of scheduling tools where required.
Required Technical & Soft Skills
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or Construction Management.
* 58 years of planning/scheduling experience in construction projects, with prior experience in Saudi Arabia.
* Experience in Makkah city is an advantage.
* Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project, with a solid understanding of CPM scheduling concepts.
* Experience in 4D simulation and BIM-integrated scheduling and linking Primavera P6 schedules with Revit/Navisworks models for visual construction sequencing and coordination.
* Ability to structure WBS and activities in Primavera P6 to align with BIM model breakdowns and enable effective model-schedule integration.
* Good understanding of construction methods, multi-trade sequencing, and the full project lifecycle from design to handover.
* Comfortable interpreting BIM models, drawings, and coordination outputs to support schedule logic and construction planning.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex schedule data into clear messages for non-technical stakeholders.
* Effective communication and presentation skills in English and Arabic.
* Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
