Job overview:
The Planning Engineer ( Power Plants) is responsible for planning, scheduling, and monitoring all construction, system handover, and commissioning activities for Combined Cycle Power Plant projects. The position focuses on site execution, System Turnover Package (STP) management, and commissioning readiness, ensuring seamless transition from construction completion to commissioning and start-up.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Planning Engineer ( Power Plants)
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules (Level 3 / Level 4) in Primavera P6, aligned with the overall project baseline.
- Plan and sequence construction activities for Combined Cycle systems, including:
- Gas Turbine (GT)
- Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG)
- Steam Turbine (ST)
- Balance of Plant (BOP)
- Coordinate construction planning with site execution teams, subcontractors, and discipline leads.
- Monitor construction progress, identify schedule risks, and analyze critical and near-critical paths.
- Prepare recovery and mitigation plans in case of deviations from the baseline schedule.
System Turnover Package (STP) & Handover
- Develop and manage System Turnover Packages in accordance with commissioning and project requirements.
- Define system boundaries, subsystem breakdowns, and handover logic from Construction to Commissioning.
- Plan construction completion milestones linked to mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and system handover.
- Track STP status, completeness, and readiness for commissioning.
- Interface with Construction, QA/QC, and Commissioning teams to ensure timely and structured system turnover.
Commissioning Planning & Support
- Develop and integrate commissioning schedules into the construction planning, ensuring logical ties between mechanical completion and commissioning activities.
- Support commissioning sequence planning for:
- Cold commissioning
- Hot commissioning
- Functional testing
- Start-up and initial operation
- Monitor commissioning progress and adjust schedules based on field conditions and system availability.
- Ensure alignment between construction completion, STP readiness, and commissioning execution.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Measure and validate physical progress for construction and commissioning activities.
- Prepare periodic planning reports, including:
- Look-ahead schedules
- Planned vs. actual progress analysis
- Critical path analysis
- Forecast completion dates
- Support project management with schedule-driven decision-making.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, or equivalent).
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Planner or Project Scheduler.
- Mandatory experience in Combined Cycle Power Plant projects.
- Proven experience working on-site during construction and commissioning phases.
Software & Tools:
- Advanced user of Primavera P6 (essential).
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel.
- Languages:
- English: Intermediate to Advanced (technical and reporting level).
Technical Knowledge
- Construction and commissioning sequence of Combined Cycle Power Plants.
- System-based planning and turnover methodologies.
- Interface management between construction, STP, and commissioning.
- Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling.
- EPC project execution environment.
