Job Purpose
The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, updating, and controlling project schedules to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. The role involves coordinating with project teams, tracking progress, identifying delays, and preparing schedule reports for management and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
- Prepare baseline schedules, manpower histograms, cash flow forecasts, and resource-loaded schedules.
- Establish project milestones, work breakdown structures (WBS), and critical paths.
- Monitor project progress against approved schedules and identify schedule variances.
Project Monitoring & Control
- Update project schedules periodically based on site progress.
- Conduct critical path analysis and evaluate schedule impacts.
- Track productivity, resources, and project performance indicators.
- Analyze delays and prepare recovery plans and mitigation strategies.
- Generate weekly and monthly progress reports.
Coordination
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractor teams.
- Attend project progress meetings and provide schedule status updates.
- Support project management in decision-making through planning analysis.
Claims & Risk Management
- Prepare extension of time (EOT) claims and delay analysis reports.
- Assess schedule risks and develop contingency plans.
- Maintain project documentation related to planning and scheduling activities.
Reporting
- Prepare dashboards, S-curves, earned value reports, and progress measurement reports.
- Present schedule status and forecasts to project management and clients.
- Ensure compliance with project and contractual scheduling requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Certification in Primavera P6 preferred.
- PMP or Project Controls certifications are an advantage.
Experience
- Construction Projects: 5-10+ years of planning and scheduling experience in large-scale building, infrastructure, industrial, or civil projects.
- Oil & Gas/EPC Projects: 5-10+ years in refinery, petrochemical, LNG, offshore, pipeline, or EPC projects.
