Plant Electrician
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
The Plant Electrician is responsible for organizing, executing, and installing fixed plant electrical and instrumentation maintenance safely and effectively across the Sukari operation. This frontline technical role focuses on maintaining complex machinery to OEM specifications, minimizing processing plant downtime, and executing scheduled preventive tasks within an established corporate safety framework.

The Key Responsibilities
- Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance, service, and installation of all electrical and instrumentation equipment across the processing plant, ensuring all work strictly meets Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all electrical installations and modifications completely align with the Australian Standard wiring rules regulations.
- Breakdown Rectification & Troubleshooting: Demonstrate strong frontline capabilities in identifying plant defects and rapidly rectifying sudden machinery problems in critical, high-pressure breakdown situations. Read and accurately interpret complex electrical blueprints, line schematics, and instrumentation drawings.
- Asset Management & Work Orders: Operate daily in accordance with the SGM Enterprise Asset Management framework. Execute and close out scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) work orders on time to support plant availability targets.
- Procurement Support: Proactively identify needed replacement parts required to effectively repair machinery, and coordinate directly with the electrical supervisor to facilitate the warehouse parts procurement process.
- Absolute Safety Enforcements: Maintain a safe standard of installation to prevent personnel exposure to electrical hazards. Enforce 100% compliance with Take 5 safety protocols for every single task and execute Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) wherever standard safe work procedures have not been previously established.
- Team Supervision & Development: Disseminate technical knowledge to team members and electrical contractors to improve overall understanding and team skills. Ensure staff performance remains at a high standard and resolve personnel conflicts promptly and effectively.
The Requirements
- Education & Qualifications: An Electrical Trade Certificate, or a recognized tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of active experience in an identical industrial electrical maintenance role within a heavy industrial processing plant, heavy manufacturing facility, or active mining operation. Working knowledge of metalliferous processing equipment and instrumentation setups is required. Prior gold mining experience is not mandatory.
- Mandatory Safety Certifications: Candidates must hold, or be fully eligible to obtain, the following essential safety certifications:
- (CPR) Certification. - (HV) and LV) Rescue Certifications.
- Technical Skills: Proven capability to perform data screening on medium voltage and high voltage (HV) systems, industrial motors, and classic control loops.
