Job Description

Role Purpose

To oversee and ensure the reliability, availability and safe operation of all PMV plant and equipment supporting infrastructure projects (roads, utilities, marine works) through effective preventive and corrective maintenance programs, efficient breakdown response, and strong maintenance planning/governance.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for the infrastructure fleet (earthmoving equipment, compaction, lifting equipment, generators/compressors, light vehicles and support plant), aligned to OEM recommendations and site utilisation.
  • Lead breakdown maintenance and troubleshooting to minimise downtime and restore plant availability for critical roadworks/utilities/marine operations.
  • Manage maintenance planning: job cards/work orders, manpower allocation, workshop loading, priority setting, and coordination with project/site teams for plant requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring (engine, hydraulics, undercarriage, electrical systems, tyres, wear parts) and propose repair/overhaul plans.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements for maintenance activities (LOTO, lifting/rigging, confined space where applicable, safe workshop practices) and enforce housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinate statutory inspections/certifications (where applicable) for lifting equipment, access equipment and pressure systems, ensuring records are maintained and equipment is fit-for-use.
  • Control maintenance costs by monitoring spare parts usage, repairs, sublet work, and consumables; provide cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or quality.
  • Coordinate with Procurement/Stores for spare parts planning: critical spares lists, reorder levels, lead times, and emergency purchases to support uptime.
  • Manage service contracts and external vendors (specialist repairs, calibration/testing, tyre suppliers, hydraulics, auto-electrical, AC services) and verify quality of work and close-out documentation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records (service history, breakdown logs, inspections, warranties, calibration/certification) and produce reliability and downtime reports.
  • Support fleet mobilisation/demobilisation between infrastructure projects, ensuring readiness checks and controlled handover documentation.
  • Train and guide mechanics/technicians on diagnostic methods, standard repair procedures, and OEM best practices; coach for productivity and quality.
  • Participate in incident/near-miss investigations involving plant/equipment and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
  • Contribute to PMV planning by advising on fleet capability, replacement/overhaul recommendations, and improvement of maintenance systems.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor's / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Relevant OEM training/certifications (advantage)
  • 5–8+ years in plant/fleet maintenance within infrastructure/civil construction (roads/utilities/marine preferred)
  • Proven track record improving equipment availability and controlling downtime
