Assists and involves in the application and removal of casts, splints and braces.
Works with and instruct patients in caring for their injuries.
Adjusts traction equipment and be able to adjust crutches, walkers and other aids and provide instructions to patients in their use.
Assists surgeons in the emergency room, in setting of broken bones and the fitting of prosthetic limbs. Provides health education to patient and family.
Works directly with orthopaedic doctors and surgeons in the treatment of bone and joint injuries
Handles wounds care under aseptic condition including change of dressing, removal of sutures and staples, application of steri strips and identification of complicated wounds and dressing change.
Prepares, applies, maintains and removes plaster casts as directed by medical and senior staff on the Wards, Theatres, Emergency and Out-patient Clinics.
Reviews all plaster as required and takes necessary action regarding maintenance and informing senior staff.
Accountable for the application and maintenance of all traction set up for patients on the Wards, Theatres and Emergency.
Acts well-trained in sterilization and infection protocols.
Writes an official delegation of all responsibilities and assignments prior to leave / vacation.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned within the policy of the designated entity.
Qualifications
Two (2) years Diploma in Plaster Technician, Nursing, Health Allied or an equivalent in one of the applied medical specialist.
