Job Description
The PLC Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, commissioning, maintenance, and optimisation of PLC, SCADA, and industrial control systems at Arabian Explosives Company LLC.
The role ensures reliable, safe, and compliant operation of automated systems supporting explosives manufacturing, utilities, and plant infrastructure, in line with MOI, HSE, and AREX operational requirements.
Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure full compliance with AREX, Stevin Rock Group, and MOI HSE policies and procedures
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with automated and electrical control systems
Immediately stop and report unsafe acts or conditions related to control systems or plant automation
Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance related to explosives manufacturing environments
PLC & Control Systems Engineering
Design, program, modify, and maintain PLC systems (including logic, HMI, and SCADA interfaces)
Troubleshoot and rectify PLC, instrumentation, and control system faults to minimise downtime
Develop and maintain control philosophies, I/O lists, PLC backups, and technical documentation
Implement system upgrades, expansions, and optimisation initiatives to improve reliability and performance
Plant Automation & Commissioning
Support installation, testing, and commissioning of new plant, equipment, and automation systems
Integrate PLC systems with instrumentation, drives, sensors, and safety interlocks
Participate in FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities for new or modified systems
Ensure automation systems meet operational, safety, and production requirements
Maintenance & Reliability Support
Provide technical support to maintenance and production teams for control-related issues
Develop preventive maintenance routines for PLC and control systems
Analyse recurring faults and implement permanent corrective actions
Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
Managerial Accountabilities
Provide technical guidance and on-the-job support to technicians and electricians
Contribute to training and skills development related to PLC and automation systems
Support planning, scheduling, and prioritisation of automation-related work
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical, Automation, Control Engineering, or related discipline
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years experience in PLC and industrial automation roles
Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or process environments (hazardous or regulated industries preferred)
Hands-on experience with PLC programming, fault finding, and commissioning
Technical Knowledge
Strong knowledge of PLC platforms (e.g. Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider or equivalent)
Experience with SCADA, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols
Understanding of instrumentation, VSDs, safety interlocks, and control panels
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control drawings
Other Requirements
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Good communication and documentation skills
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Willingness to work in high‑risk, regulated industrial environments
