Port Engineer (Technical Superintendent)

Own the reliability and certification of navigation, communication, automation, and electronic control systems (ECDIS, GMDSS, DP/USV control where applicable). Lead troubleshooting, upgrades, and cyber/comms compliance across a mixed fleet, including unmanned surface vessels (USVs).

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain certification and operability of navigation, communication, and automation systems.
• Diagnose and resolve electronic faults; manage spares and firmware.
• Plan upgrades/retrofits (e.g., ECDIS, DP/USV control) and ensure cyber readiness.
• Support USV deployments — links, sensors, control systems, and redundancy.
• Maintain technical records, configurations, and drawings.
• Interface with Projects to define electronic scope and readiness.
• Supervise riding electricians/contractors and coordinate with OEM service partners.

Requirements

• B.Eng. in Electronics/Automation/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–10 years experience in marine electronics (GMDSS/ECDIS/radar/automation) with superintendent exposure.
• GMDSS maintainer or OEM courses preferred; cyber awareness required.
• Strong diagnostics, configuration/version control, and documentation skills.
• Analytical mindset with strong vendor management ability.
• Familiarity with IMO (SOLAS/MARPOL/ISM/ISPS), Flag State & Class rules, STCW; ISO 9001/14001/45001 a plus.
