We're seeking a customer-facing Presales Engineer specializing in passive networking infrastructure to drive technical discovery, solution design, estimation, and bid support. You will work closely with sales, delivery, and vendor partners to build accurate, standards-compliant solutions and compelling proposals that win projects across enterprise, commercial, industrial, and data center environments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead technical discovery (site surveys, walkthroughs, RFIs) and translate requirements into designs for structured cabling (Cat6/Cat6A), fiber optics (SM/MM), ODF/ODU, patch panels, racks/cabinets, containment (tray/conduit), and OSP/ISP.
- Produce design artifacts: schematics, layouts, bill of materials (BoM/BoQ), cable schedules, single-line diagrams, and as-built inputs using AutoCAD/Visio.
- Ensure adherence to standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, ANSI, data center best practices) and local authority/client specifications.
- Own presales responses: technical proposals, method statements, solution narratives, compliance matrices, and value engineering.
- Collaborate with sales on opportunity qualification, solution positioning, and competitive differentiation.
- Prepare costing sheets and pricing models; validate margin assumptions and risks.
- Engage with OEMs/distributors for quotations, alternates, and EoL/availability; recommend equivalent options.
- Track vendor lead times and ensure material compliance with client specifications.
- Deliver customer presentations, demos, and design workshops; handle technical Q&A and clarifications.
- Interface with project managers, site teams, and QS/estimation, ensuring presales handover is complete and executable.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's in Electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications/IT (or related discipline).
- 48 years in presales/estimation/design for passive networking or ICT infrastructure (structured cabling, fiber, racks/ODFs, containment).
- Strong proficiency in:
- AutoCAD and/or Visio (design documentation)
- Excel (pricing models, BoQs), and PowerPoint (customer presentations)
- Reading IFC/shop drawings, performing take-offs, and creating accurate BoQs
- Hands-on understanding of installation practices and test/commissioning (e.g., OTDR, Fluke DSX).
- Knowledge of standards: TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, ANSI, and common client specifications.
- Experience responding to RFPs/RFQs, producing technical proposals, and method statements.
