Job Purpose:
To act as the corporate technical authority for mechanical engineering within Project Development & Engineering, ensuring consistent, high-quality and fit-for-purpose mechanical designs across all projects. The Principal Engineer, Mechanical governs standards, leads critical technical decisions, and provides senior oversight of EPC and vendor deliverables during concept, FEED, and detailed engineering to protect project value, safety, and long-term asset performance.
Key Accountabilities:
- Serve as the highest level mechanical technical authority for project development and engineering activities.
- Define, maintain, and govern company's mechanical engineering standards, specifications, and best practices for projects.
- Provide senior technical oversight and approval of key mechanical deliverables during concept, pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed engineering reviews.
- Review and challenge EPC and vendor documents including equipment specifications, datasheets, layouts, design calculations, and package interfaces.
- Lead or arbitrate critical technical decisions on rotating equipment, static equipment, piping, and mechanical packages.
- Support technology selection, equipment standardization, and long-lead item strategies across the project portfolio.
- Lead or participate in major design reviews, constructability reviews, and risk reviews for mechanical scope.
- Provide expert input to technical bid evaluations (TBE) for major mechanical packages and EPC contracts.
- Ensure compliance with company's standards and international codes (ASME, API, ISO, ASTM, etc.).
- Support project assurance reviews, stage-gate approvals, and executive technical decision-making.
- Mentor Lead and Senior Engineers and build long-term mechanical engineering capability within the organization.
- Represent company's as the mechanical authority in engagements with licensors, EPC contractors, and key vendors.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (Master's degree preferred).
• Chartered/Professional Engineer registration or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Minimum Experience:
• 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience in large industrial or mining projects, EPC, or owner's engineering organizations.
• Extensive experience in project development, FEED, and detailed design review of major capital projects.
• Strong background in rotating equipment, static equipment, piping, and large mechanical packages.
