Principal Structural Design Engineer

Overall Summary

Professional engineer with proven experience in structural projects from conceptual stage through detailed design for medium to large size projects. Able to supervise a team of structural engineers on various projects. Able to negotiate critical and controversial issues with top level engineers and architects. Thorough knowledge of projects engineering practices, economics principles, international standards, codes, specifications, and procedures. Minimum of an undergraduate degree in engineering with a minimum of 15 years experience in Oil & Gas, Hydrocarbons, and/or Infrastructure industries. Excellent communication skills required.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for study, design and material specifications for structures including buildings, equipment supports, miscellaneous platforms, pipe supports and other structural engineering works
  • Lead and supervise a team of structural engineers
  • Responsible for employee performance appraisals, coaching and developing lower level professionals
  • Responsible for the scoping of projects, including structural deliverables
  • Develop work plans for structural team
  • Develop structural deliverables
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the project team
  • Responsible for on-schedule delivery of the work within budget
  • Responsible for technical presentations to Clients and their representatives as required
  • Serve as technical resource to architects and related discipline engineers and designers

Qualifications & Years Of Experience

Bachelor of Science (Structural Engineering) and minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience.

Key Skills & Technical Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of basic engineering and structural principles
  • Familiarity with key SA engineering standards and procedures is desirable
  • Ability to handle responsibility and complete projects within schedule
  • Must be proficient in English, oral and written
  • Excellent presentation skills required
  • Excellent communication skills
