About the Role Procurement Engineer (Electrical Power Plant Projects)
The Procurement Engineer Electrical is responsible for end-to-end procurement of electrical systems, equipment, and materials for power plant projects. This includes switchgear, transformers, cables, motors, generators, panels, lighting, and ELV systems. The role ensures technical compliance, vendor performance, timely delivery, and cost efficiency, supporting seamless project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Procurement & Vendor Management
- Manage procurement of electrical equipment, materials, and systems for power plant projects
- Issue RFQs/RFPs, evaluate vendors, and finalize commercial and technical offers
- Maintain approved vendor lists, prequalification processes, and vendor performance records
- Track POs, delivery schedules, and expedite vendors to ensure timely supply
Technical & Specification Compliance
- Review technical specifications, datasheets, BOMs, and drawings for electrical packages
- Ensure materials comply with project standards, client requirements, and international electrical codes
- Coordinate with design engineers, QA/QC teams, and site teams for material approvals and inspections
- Support submittals, FATs, commissioning documentation, and certification requirements
Project & Site Coordination
- Liaise with site engineers, project managers, and consultants to align procurement schedules with installation and commissioning plans
- Provide technical support for material substitutions, alternatives, and value engineering
- Ensure critical electrical materials are available on site to prevent project delays
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain procurement records, vendor correspondence, expediting logs, and compliance reports
- Track budgets, cost optimization initiatives, and procurement KPIs
- Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, HSE standards, and audit requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 510 years of experience in electrical procurement for power plant, industrial, or EPC projects
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, equipment procurement, and supplier markets
- Experience in UAE / GCC power plant projects is preferred
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of switchgear, transformers, motors, generators, cables, panels, ELV, and lighting systems
- Proven experience in vendor management, expediting, and contract coordination
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and electrical BOMs
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with vendors, consultants, and site teams
- Proficiency in ERP / procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of handling fast-paced, multi-project environments
