Role Description The Project Engineer / Senior Engineer is a part-time remote role responsible for overseeing technical aspects of news production and broadcast operations. In this role, the engineer collaborates with producers and technical staff to design, implement, and maintain broadcast workflows, including signal routing, studio and field equipment configurations, and integration with digital platforms. Daily tasks include diagnosing and resolving technical issues, coordinating with vendors and internal teams on system upgrades, documenting configurations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and security practices. The position also involves contributing to project planning, advising on equipment selection, and supporting the rollout of new technologies to improve reliability, efficiency, and quality of Channel 10 News content.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in broadcast or media engineering, including experience with studio, control room, and field production systems.
  • Hands-on skills with video and audio signal flow, routing systems, encoding/decoding technologies, and IP-based broadcast solutions.
  • Knowledge of production and post-production tools, such as video switchers, graphics systems, editing platforms, and asset management systems.
  • Experience managing technical projects, including requirements gathering, planning, implementation, and documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, prioritize tasks, and provide clear, timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and editorial teams in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices related to broadcast quality, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, broadcast technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Previous experience in a news, media, or live production environment is highly beneficial.
  • Comfort working part time with flexible schedules that may occasionally align with live news or special event coverage needs.
