The Project Engineer (Rigs & Offshore) must possess thorough knowledge, particularly in delivering ship repairs and refurbishments. This expertise should encompass Structural, Mechanical, Piping, or Electrical Instrumentation at an elevated level. The candidate will be a key stakeholder in managing and delivering their area of expertise.
This is a direct, site-based role, leading the physical delivery of projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that IMI standards and procedures are followed, especially regarding Health and Safety, and that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
The Project Engineers primary function is to coordinate/troubleshoot the jobs onboard the assigned Projects according to the Project Plans and Project Deliverables while in direct liaison with the assigned Project Manager and production trades.
The Project Engineer will assist the assigned Project Manager(s) in other tasks such as collecting/processing information for onboard work, progressing schedules in liaison with the Project Planner, attending relevant meetings as applicable and others as required by the Project Manager.
Additionally, the Project Engineer will be expected to:
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless project execution.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the project team.
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Depending on project specifics and criticalities, the Project Engineer may be assigned to serve the role of Project Manager in specific projects as this will lead to the development of the Senior role.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure all work activities are carried out in strict compliance with IMI Health, Safety,
- Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and the International Maritime Industries
- Management System (IMIMS).
- Expertise Delivery: Lead the delivery of specialized areas within rig repairs or similar projects, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to project specifications.
- Project Management: Collaborate closely with the Project Manager(s) to plan, execute, and oversee project activities, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
- Execution Management: Lead the execution for the related disciplines, managing the interface between IMI personnel and the assigned sub-contractors to ensure the scope of work is delivered on time and according to the critical path schedule.
- Project Estimates and Material Take-Offs: Prepare and review project estimates and material take-offs.
- Site Leadership: Take a direct, site-based approach to managing the physical delivery of the projects, whether through direct involvement or coordination with contractors.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with IMI standards and
- procedures, with a strong emphasis on health and safety regulations.
- Stakeholder Communication: Function as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing updates and addressing any issues promptly.
- Resource Management: Manage resources efficiently, including personnel, materials, and equipment, to optimize project outcomes.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during the project, applying innovative solutions to maintain project momentum.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project progress, including daily logs, reports, and documentation required for compliance and project tracking.
- Serve as acting Project Manager, depending on project specifics and individual performance.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, as assigned to the Senior Project Engineer, depending on operational requirements.
- Perform other relevant tasks as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent.
- Professional Project Management Qualifications preferred.
- Marine-related professional qualifications or relevant.

EXPERIENCE:
- 3 6 years of experience in a reputable shipyard/ship repair company.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in the English language.
- Fluency in Arabic is beneficial.
