Job Description
As a Purchasing & Planning Specialist, you'll manage the purchasing process and support inventory planning to ensure product availability aligns with sales targets for a fashion field, brand assortment strategy, and seasonal demand. You'll work closely with merchandising, finance, and operations to plan purchases, forecast needs, maintain vendor relationships, and reduce stockouts and excess inventory.
Key Responsibilities
-Build and maintain seasonal and ongoing purchase plans based on forecast demand and assortment strategy.
-Place and track purchase orders with vendors, ensuring timing aligns with production and inbound schedules.
-Monitor lead times and supplier performance to proactively prevent delays.
-Analyze sell-through, inventory levels, open orders, and in-transit product to recommend reorder quantities.
-Support inventory health targets (e.g., turns, weeks of supply, markdown risk).
-Identify overstock/understock risks and recommend corrective actions.
-Collaborate with sourcing/vendors to confirm pricing, terms, delivery dates, and production updates.
-Maintain accurate vendor and PO documentation.
-Resolve issues related to shortages, late deliveries, allocation, and order changes.
-Partner with merchandising and finance to align buying decisions with budgets and expected margins.
-Coordinate with warehouse/logistics teams to ensure smooth receiving and allocation.
-Provide regular updates on purchase status, inventory projections, and risk areas.
-Improve planning processes using data, best practices, and performance reviews.
Requirements
-1+ years of experience in purchasing, planning, merchandising operations, supply chain planning, or similar roles (apparel/fashion experience preferred).
-Strong understanding of inventory planning concepts (forecasting, lead times, safety stock/reorder pointsif applicable).
-High proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel required). Experience with ERP and/or planning tools is a plus (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, O9, Blue Yonder, Tableau, etc.).
-Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities across vendors and departments.
-Strong communication skillsable to influence outcomes through data and collaboration.
-Comfort working with seasonal trends and fast-changing demand signals.
