Quantity Surveyor

Role Overview

A Quantity Surveyor manages all costs related to construction projects, from initial estimates to final accounts. The role ensures projects are completed within budget while maintaining quality and legal compliance. Quantity Surveyors work closely with contractors, engineers, architects, and clients to control costs and minimize financial risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost planning
  • Prepare tender and contract documents
  • Analyze and evaluate contractor bids
  • Monitor project costs and track variations
  • Conduct site visits to assess progress and value completed work
  • Manage interim valuations and final accounts
  • Advise on procurement strategies
  • Ensure compliance with legal and contractual requirements
  • Prepare financial reports and cost forecasts

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB preferred in many countries)

Skills

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods and materials
  • Understanding of contract law and procurement
  • Proficiency in cost-estimating software and MS Excel
  • Good negotiation and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
