About the Role
We are looking for a Security R&D Engineering Manager to lead the software design and implementation of cybersecurity products heavily infused with AI and infrastructure engineering. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving hard engineering problems while also building a high-performing team and driving execution. Cybersecurity background is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution
- Lead architecture and technical research and decision-making for complex security features, and platforms product capabilities.
- Contribute hands-on to the design and development of security R&D initiatives, prototypes, and high-impact engineering work.
- Review design documents, code, and research outputs to ensure technical quality, security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Guide the team on secure engineering practices, threat-informed design, and sound technical trade-offs.
- Support investigation and resolution of technically challenging issues, including design flaws, security weaknesses, and system bottlenecks.
Team Leadership
- Lead planning, prioritization, and execution of R&D engineering work across the team.
- Balance hands-on contribution with team leadership, ensuring effective delivery without losing technical depth.
- Manage dependencies, risks, and timelines across research and engineering initiatives.
- Coach and develop engineers through mentorship, technical guidance, and performance management.
- Foster a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, experimentation, quality, and collaboration.
- Support hiring and team growth, helping build a strong and adaptable security R&D organization.
Product Engineering
- Build and oversee prototypes and feasibility validations that inform roadmap and product decisions.
- Ensure security capabilities are engineered with product usability, operational practicality, and long-term maintainability in mind.
- Participate in translating product strategy and business priorities into actionable technical plans and R&D workstreams.
- Help identify technically differentiated opportunities that create product advantage in the market.
- Partner closely with product managers, researchers, designers, and engineering teams to shape features from concept to delivery.
Qualifications
- Strong software engineering background with experience building complex systems, platforms, or security products.
- Experience leading technical teams while remaining actively hands-on.
- Strong architectural thinking and ability to evaluate trade-offs across speed, risk, quality, and scalability.
- Ability to work across research, software engineering, AI engineering and infrastructure engineering to turn ambiguity into execution.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to align technical work with business goals.
