Job Description
We're hiring: EHS Engineer – Egypt High Speed Rail
2A Tech runs the Temporary Operation Team (TOT) on the Egypt High Speed Rail Green Line. The TOT controls access, permits, power and train movements in the areas under testing and commissioning.
We are looking for an EHS Engineer to join the team.
The role
You are the team's inspection and control function. You check that safety rules and operating procedures are applied, in the field and on paper. You report directly to the Temporary Operation Manager, and you have full stop-work authority.
What you will do
In the field
- Attend train shunting movements and check that briefings, authorisations and radio communications follow the rules
- Inspect depots, yards and the mainline for hazards and anomalies before areas are handed over
- Carry out random EHS inspections and audits of work parties inside the TOT areas
- Check that work sites are protected and segregated, and that working near energised equipment is under control
- Verify isolation and lock-out/tag-out arrangements before and during electrical works
- Check PPE, housekeeping, signage, lighting and safe access routes
- Monitor environmental aspects: waste, spills, fuel and oil storage, dust and noise
Equipment and people
- Check that vehicles and equipment are registered, hold valid inspection certificates and are maintained according to their maintenance plans
- Check that lifting equipment, tools and road vehicles on site are certified and used within their limits
- Check that everyone on site is trained, authorised and fit for the task they perform
- Keep training and competence records up to date and flag expiries
Permits and documents
- Give the safety opinion on work permits
- Review method statements and risk assessments of work parties
- Check that permits, procedures, operations books and checklists are available on site and filled in correctly
Safety culture and reporting
- Deliver safety inductions, daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
- Promote near-miss and hazard reporting across the team
- Track findings and corrective actions until they are closed
- Prepare periodic EHS reports and KPIs for the Operations Manager
Emergencies and interfaces
- Support incident reporting and investigation
- Check emergency arrangements, equipment and muster points, and organise drills
- Work with the consortium EHS team, work parties and site security
What we look for
- Degree or diploma in safety, engineering or a related technical field
- 3-5 years in EHS on railway or industrial projects; testing and commissioning experience is a plus
- NEBOSH or IOSH is a plus
- Strong field presence, attention to detail and clear written reporting
- English C1
