AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.
Position Overview
The NOC Engineer (Service Assurance) is responsible for monitoring, triaging, and ensuring the stability of satellite connectivity across signaling, routing, SIM provisioning, OSS integrations, and corenetwork interactions. This role handles alarms, validates routing behavior, diagnoses signaling and gateway/core issues, and coordinates closely with partner NOCs to maintain high availability across commercial and betagrade connectivity flows. Reporting to the Service Assurance Manager, the NOC Engineer plays a critical role in 24/7 operational continuity and rapid incident response.
Key Responsibilities
Network Monitoring & Event Handling
- Monitor signaling pathways, routing behavior, SIM flows, OSS hooks, and crosscore interactions impacting satellite service.
- Detect, acknowledge, and triage alarms from monitoring platforms, ensuring rapid response and detailed logging.
- Escalate anomalies based on severity, impact, and operational thresholds.
Incident Diagnosis & Troubleshooting
- Validate routing tables, signaling transactions, and corenetwork behavior during faults or degradation events.
- Diagnose issues across gateway, core, OSS, and crossdomain integrations affecting service connectivity.
- Perform detailed event analysis, correlate logs, and support rootcause investigations with engineering teams.
Partner NOC Coordination
- Serve as the operational interface with partner NOCs across incident handling, alarm correlation, and workflow alignment.
- Coordinate multiparty triage calls, share logs and findings, and ensure timely tracking and closure of partnerlinked issues.
- Maintain consistent communication loops and follow defined escalation paths.
Service Flow Validation & Operational Compliance
- Ensure signaling and routing flows remain compliant across commercial and betagrade service classes.
- Perform periodic checks on SIM provisioning paths, authentication flows, and connectivity stability.
- Validate OSS integration points, alarms, KPIs, and data hooks supporting service assurance visibility.
Operational Readiness & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to playbooks, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides for core/gateway/OSS interactions.
- Support readiness for new services, partner integrations, and routing changes by conducting prelaunch validation tests.
- Provide feedback on monitoring thresholds, dashboards, and workflow improvements to enhance detection and response.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate logs, incident records, and ticket updates for internal and external teams.
- Provide shifthandover summaries, incident reports, and RCA inputs when needed.
- Track recurring issues and propose remediation actions to service assurance leadership.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronics, or related technical field.
- Certifications in networking (CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIS) or telecom operations are advantageous.
Experience
- 2–5 years in NOC operations, telecom monitoring, satellite operations, or corenetwork support.
- Experience working with signaling flows, routing tables, authentication paths, or mobilecore elements.
- Handson exposure to multivendor NOC operations, incident workflows, and partner escalations.
Required Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of signaling (e.g., Diameter, SIP, NAS), routing fundamentals, and corenetwork behavior.
- Knowledge of telecom connectivity flows (SIM activation, attach procedures, mobility, authentication).
- Experience analyzing logs, traces, routing tables, and event correlations across network elements.
- Familiarity with OSS/NMS tools, alarms, KPIs, dashboards, and monitoring platforms.
- Basic understanding of satellite network components, gateways, or hybrid RANcore flows is a plus.
- Handson with Linux, basic scripting (Python/Bash), and troubleshooting tools.
Professional Skills
- Strong analytical skills and ability to diagnose issues under time pressure.
- Excellent communication for coordination with internal teams and partner NOCs.
- High attention to detail with disciplined documentation and tracking.
- Adaptability to shiftbased schedules and fastpaced incident environments.
- Teamoriented mindset with strong ownership of incident resolution and service quality.
Technology Proficiency
- NOC and OSS/NMS tools (Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, SolarWinds, or similar).
- Logging tools (Elastic, Splunk, Kibana) and packet analysis tools (Wireshark).
- Ticketing/ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy).
- Basic scripting and automation familiarity (Python, Bash).
- Strong working knowledge of Excel, dashboards, and documentation tools.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a shiftbased NOC environment, including nights or weekends based on rotation.
- Ability to remain attentive during extended monitoring sessions and incident bridges.
- Occasional travel for training, partner coordination, or operational readiness activities.
Deliverables
- Realtime monitoring logs, incident tickets, and alarm responses.
- Routing validation reports, signaling analysis outputs, and incident triage documentation.
- Shift handover summaries and partnercoordination records.
- RCA inputs and recurringissue tracking reports.
- Updated SOPs, playbooks, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks.
