Reporting to: Head of Freight Forwarding, Egypt

Job Purpose

The Reefer Manager is responsible for leading and managing all refrigerated cargo (Reefer) activities within Egypt. This role ensures operational excellence, supports commercial growth, and develops the Reefer product offering locally. The position carries responsibility for local profit and loss (P&L) performance of the Reefer segment and acts as the subject matter expert, supporting the Head of Freight Forwarding in achieving strategic objectives.

Key Accountabilities

The Reefer Manager is accountable for:

  • Executing the local Reefer product strategy in Egypt.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert for Reefer within the country.
  • Collaborating with the Head of Freight Forwarding and regional/global teams to drive performance.
  • Conducting market analysis and maintaining a healthy business pipeline.
  • Developing new business opportunities and managing supplier relationships.
  • Supporting sales strategies and ensuring effective operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial

  • Serve as the local Reefer expert, supporting the development of a profitable product offering.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Egyptian suppliers (carriers, cold storage providers etc.).
  • Design and implement Egypt-specific sales strategies for Reefer clients, including account development reviews.
  • Support the local sales team with product knowledge and tools to win and retain Reefer business.
  • Align with Sales on pipeline management and forecasting.
  • Define market segmentation and pricing strategies tailored to Egypt's market.

Procurement

  • Lead local procurement activities in line with regional/global guidelines.
  • Develop and execute the local procurement strategy for Reefer cargo.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and provide market updates relevant to Egypt.
  • Collaborate with tender teams to complete procurement processes.
  • Maintain rate visibility and compliance with business standards.
  • Respond to pricing requests for both import and export Reefer cargo.
  • Negotiate rates with local suppliers and ensure transparent communication of terms.
  • Monitor customer performance against nominations and provide feedback to carriers.

Operations

  • Support the Ocean Freight team with Reefer-specific knowledge and training.
  • Act as the escalation point for Reefer service issues in Egypt.
  • Develop operations staff as the Reefer business grows.
  • Conduct onboarding and training sessions to ensure compliance with regulatory, GDP, and healthcare standards.
  • Collaborate with customs clearance teams to meet import/export requirements.

Business Development

  • Identify and assess Reefer business opportunities in Egypt.
  • Build relationships with key local customers and decision-makers ahead of RFQ processes.
  • Support Sales and Key Account Managers in securing Reefer business through joint client meetings and solution development.
  • Promote Reefer internally and engage stakeholders in product development and competitive strategy.
  • Provide tailored support to vertical market clients (e.g., produce, seafood, meat, dairy, retail, QSR).
  • Assist in preparing and delivering proposals and presentations during RFI/RFQ processes.

Budget & Administration

  • Set and achieve the annual Reefer cargo budget for Egypt.
  • Conduct monthly P&L reporting for Reefer imports and exports.
  • Perform regular P&L reviews and GAP analyses to ensure financial performance.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field. MBA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigerated ocean freight and local Egyptian logistics market.
  • Proven track record in Reefer management or related logistics functions.
  • Insider knowledge of industries such as produce, seafood, meat/proteins, dairy, pastry, retail, and QSR.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools (CRM systems, Excel, logistics software).
  • Willingness to travel within Egypt to meet clients, suppliers, and attend industry events.
  • Experience with lean management principles and continuous improvement methodologies is preferred.
