Reliability Engineers work to ensure the reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety/security systems.
They also identify and manage asset reliability risks and provide technical support.
Reliability Engineers are responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
- Analyze the failure modes of equipment and systems to prevent failures and downtime
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies and perform routine maintenance checks
- Use statistical analysis to predict system reliability and risk of failure
- Work closely with other engineers and professionals in the design process to ensure reliability and durability of new projects
- Test and analyze parts and equipment to determine the cause of malfunctions and failures
- Document and communicate reliability analysis and testing results
- Design system upgrades for improved reliability and performance
- Provide training and support to maintenance personnel
- Participate in the creation of policies and procedures for inspection, maintenance, and repair methods
