The Respiratory Therapist reports to the Respiratory Therapy Manager and is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based respiratory care to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. The role supports critical and non-critical care settings, ensures compliance with DOH/DHA regulations, and collaborates closely with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and safety.
Responsibilities
- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction using evidence-based respiratory therapy practices.
- Perform ABG/VBG/CBG sampling and point-of-care testing (POCT) as per physician orders.
- Provide advanced airway management, including tracheostomy care, bronchial hygiene therapy, and emergency airway support.
- Administer inhaled medications and adjust respiratory therapies based on clinical assessment and laboratory findings.
- Assist in cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including participation in code team responses.
- Identify and escalate patient deterioration, ensuring timely intervention.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care plans and promote self-management strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Minimum 2 years of post-qualification experience in respiratory therapy (preferably acute/critical care).
- Valid DOH/DHA Medical License (or eligibility).
- Strong knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and respiratory therapy best practices.
Preferred:
- Experience in ICU or emergency department settings.
- Experience in JCI-accredited healthcare facilities.
