Role overview

This job involves performing risk assessment surveys (physical & remote) at Liva insured & prospect risks located in UAE & Bahrain, in accordance with Liva's Risk Control Guideline. The type of properties includes high-value residential and commercial budlings, industrial occupancies and warehouses, manufacturing industries, special occupancies, etc.

A good part of the time will be spent on the field assessing risks at customer locations, gathering relevant information, documenting findings, and making recommendations for risk improvement. Developing Risk Reports in line with the internal guidelines is another key deliverable post completion of surveys or remote reviews.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and conduct detailed site survey of insured/prospect properties in UAE & Bahrain as per workload assigned by the Head of Risk Engineering. Risk Assessment include review of Construction, Occupancy, Protection and Exposures (External and Natural Catastrophe), and calculating Property Damage, Business Interruption Loss Estimates.
  • Review fire protection system designs and installations in accordance with the local Fire & Life Safety code and international standards such as NFPA & FM Data Sheets.
  • Write reports using Liva's report formats meeting the minimum technical & language quality standards.
  • Manage customer interactions in an efficient, courteous, and timely manner, escalating when necessary to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction.
  • Perform Desktop Assessments based on the site-specific documents shared by clients and brokers.
  • Manage assigned workload & submit monthly reports to Head of Risk Engineering based on the KPI's assigned.
  • Complete standard risk engineering training/certifications as per the induction & training process.
  • Engage in Risk Engineering team meetings and share technical experiences and knowledge.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Competencies Required

Specific Requirements

Experience in General Property Field Risk Engineering is required, along with at least one specialty from the following list.

  • Expertise in conducting risk assessments for complex CAR/EAR projects, including evaluations of wet risks, marine work, underground construction, railways and metro systems, bridges, dams, industrial installations, machinery testing and commissioning, and equipment certification.
  • Expertise in sprinkler system adequacy assessments as per international standards, with solid knowledge of fire protection system design; project experience preferred.
  • Experienced in flood risk assessments, and addressing climate change impacts, with a background in managing water escape incidents and implementing effective solutions.

Valid UAE driving license (to be arranged within 3 months from joining).

Skills & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's or master's Degree in engineering and/or related risk management qualification/certification.
  • Preferably with structured training or certifications in risk engineering from a reputable organization.
  • Good understanding of fire protection design reviews and field acceptance in accordance with local codes and international standards such as NFPA & FM Datasheets.
  • Solid understanding of occupancy-specific hazards, manufacturing process, and the safety interlocks.
  • Experience in risk management of other lines of business (fleet, cyber, liability, advance business impact assessments & contingency planning, etc.) is advantageous
  • Experience in preparing hazard brochures, checklists, and risk bulletins, with involvement in value-added risk engineering initiatives.
  • IT literacy to include general office systems such as Excel, Word and Power point.
  • Proven ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature in English
  • Understanding of the risk spread in the region and basic insurance product knowledge.
  • Ability to take the initiative to strive for improvement in analytic techniques, processes and outputs
  • Organized, methodical, quick thinker
  • Highly numerate and logical strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous
  • Team player with a strong business sense and client service mindset
  • Comfortable with travel extensively
