JOB PURPOSE:
To remotely control Automated Electric RTG cranes (AeRTGs) from the RCOS office, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate container handling in the yard. The role combines technical monitoring with intervention-based crane control, supporting automation performance, operational safety, and yard productivity.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Operate AeRTGs from the RCOS to stack, retrieve, and relocate containers in assigned yard blocks.
- Monitor multiple automated cranes simultaneously, intervening where necessary to correct exceptions or unsafe conditions.
- Ensure accuracy of container moves and compliance with TOS (ZODIAC) instructions.
- Coordinate with Yard Supervisor and Planning to optimize crane allocation and reduce yard congestion.
- Escalate automation errors, delays, or breakdowns to Maintenance/IT support immediately.
- Enforce HSSE requirements by monitoring yard activity through camera systems and stopping operations in case of unsafe practices.
- Maintain logs and performance records of RCOS activities for productivity tracking and troubleshooting.
- Support continuous improvement in automation efficiency by providing operational feedback
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, IT, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in container terminal operations, with exposure to automated equipment.
- Familiarity with automation systems, TOS (ZODIAC), and remote-control technology.
- Strong situational awareness and multitasking skills.
- Technical troubleshooting ability for automation-related issues.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain alert and focused in a monitoring/control room environment
