Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, implement, and maintain the Safety Management System in accordance with EASA Part 21J design management system requirements.
  • Define safety policy, safety objectives, and safety performance indicators supporting design and certification activities.
  • Establish and manage a design-related occurrence reporting and investigation process.
  • Maintain the hazard log and ensure effective risk assessment, mitigation, and acceptance in accordance with organizational Safety policy.
  • Maintain safety-related procedures, manuals, and guidance within the Design Organisation Handbook (DOH).
  • Define and manage the organization's design safety process in alignment with ARP4761 principles and applicable EASA AMC/GM.
  • Ensure planning, execution, and consistency of system safety assessments, including AFHA/FHA, PSSA, SSA, ZSA, CMA, PRA etc.
  • Ensure safety requirements derived from hazard analyses are correctly allocated, traced, verified, and validated across system and item levels.
  • Ensure that safety analyses and safety requirements are fully integrated into the development life cycle activities and Certification Programme.
  • Coordinate closely with the Head of Airworthiness to ensure safety data supports findings of compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits related to safety, design assurance, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in aviation or aerospace safety, with a strong focus on design and certification environments.
  • Certifications in ICAO Safety Management Systems, System Safety Engineering desirable.
  • Experience working within an EASA Part 21J DOA or equivalent.
  • Exposure to novel aircraft, UAS, or hybrid-electric propulsion systems is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in systems engineering, with a focus on UAV/eVTOL projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of ARP4761, EASA Part 21J related to safety and design management.
  • Ability to review, challenge, and approve safety analyses produced by engineering teams or suppliers.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Experience interfacing with EASA or other aviation authorities on safety matters is a plus.
