Safety Supervisor
Overview:
Lead, implement, and monitor safety programs and practices across military vessel construction projects to ensure a safe working environment and full compliance with regulatory, client, and internal safety standards. Promote a proactive safety culture and minimize workplace incidents and risks.Key Responsibilities:
Strategic and Functional Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and site-specific safety plans in alignment with OSHA, EPA, IACS, and MIL-SPEC standards.
- Conduct regular site safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify, document, and mitigate hazards.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and lead root cause analyses.
- Collaborate with project management and production teams to integrate safety requirements into all phases of vessel construction.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Oversee confined space entry protocols, hot work permits, and hazardous material handling procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety meetings, training sessions, incident logs, and corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations related to waste disposal and pollution control.
- Track and report safety performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor safety officers, coordinators, and field safety personnel.
- Schedule and deliver safety training and toolbox talks for all site personnel and contractors.
- Lead emergency response drills and ensure readiness for fire, medical, and environmental emergencies.
- Foster a culture of accountability, open communication, and safety-first mindset throughout the workforce.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 8 years safety experience in shipbuilding, heavy construction, or industrial environments.
- Experience conducting safety training, investigations, and audits in a complex project setting.
