Scan to BIM / Point Cloud Specialist (Revit, Laser Scanning)

We are looking for an experienced Scan-to-BIM professional to work with terrestrial laser scan data, point cloud registration, and Revit modelling to produce accurate BIM models and as-built CAD drawings for international projects.

Apex Surveys is an international survey and geospatial consultancy delivering high-accuracy reality capture solutions across buildings, infrastructure, and complex assets. Our services include terrestrial laser scanning, LiDAR, UAV survey, and the production of as-built BIM models, topographic surveys, and 2D/3D drawing outputs derived from point cloud data for clients worldwide.

This role focuses on working directly with point cloud datasets to produce BIM models, CAD drawings, and survey outputs derived from laser scanning and other reality capture technologies.

Role Overview

This is an office-based role where you will work with point cloud data captured from terrestrial laser scanning and other reality capture technologies. You will support the delivery of Scan-to-BIM and survey projects through point cloud registration, processing, modelling, and extraction of survey information.

You will also review outputs against the source point cloud data to ensure deliverables meet project accuracy requirements before client delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Point Cloud Processing and Registration

• Register and process terrestrial laser scan datasets to produce clean, aligned point clouds
• Manage point cloud data using software such as Autodesk ReCap, Leica Cyclone, Faro Scene, CloudCompare, or similar tools
• Ensure correct alignment, georeferencing, and coordinate consistency across scan datasets
• Prepare and optimise point cloud data for modelling and drawing production workflows

Scan to BIM Modelling

Produce Revit models from registered point cloud datasets (Architectural, Structural, and MEP where applicable)

Model building geometry and key structural or architectural elements directly from scan data

Maintain modelling accuracy aligned with project tolerances and required Levels of Detail (LOD)

Work with project teams to produce BIM deliverables suitable for client use

Point Cloud to CAD and Survey Outputs

• Produce 2D drawings from point cloud data including floor plans, elevations, and sections
• Support the production of as-built drawings and topographic survey outputs
• Extract measurements, building geometry, and features directly from point cloud datasets

Quality and Technical Review

• Check models and drawings against the source point cloud data
• Identify modelling inconsistencies, missing elements, or survey discrepancies
• Support internal quality checks to ensure deliverables meet project standards before issue

Required Experience and Skills

• 4+ years experience working with Scan-to-BIM, point cloud modelling, or reality capture workflows
• Experience with point cloud registration and processing
• Strong proficiency with Autodesk software including Revit, AutoCAD, and Autodesk ReCap
• Experience creating BIM models and drawings from laser scan data
• Experience working with large point cloud datasets from terrestrial laser scanning
• Understanding of survey tolerances, modelling assumptions, and reality capture workflows
• Strong attention to detail and a structured technical approach to production
• Experience with one or more of the following software platforms is beneficial: Autodesk Revit, Autodesk ReCap, Leica Cyclone / Cyclone Register, CloudCompare
